FAQs

What is a bursary?

A bursary is means-tested financial assistance towards school fees, awarded to students who would not otherwise be able to attend an independent school. Bursaries are offered as a discount of up to 100% of tuition fees, depending on financial circumstances. KSEF bursaries are available to new pupils applying for entry into Year 7 and above.

What costs will be covered by the bursary?

If your child is awarded a KSEF bursary, the support may cover:

  • A percentage reduction on tuition fees.
  • School lunches (termly charges).
  • School uniform.
  • Residential trips.
  • Induction fees (for entrance bursaries only).
  • Music lessons (in certain cases, based on need).

The exact level of support will be detailed in your bursary offer letter.

Is there a maximum income for bursary applicants?

There is no strict income threshold, as applications are assessed individually. The bursary committee considers household income, assets, and financial commitments to determine eligibility.

Will I qualify for a bursary?

Eligibility is based on:

  • Financial need (a means-tested assessment is required).
  • Academic potential (students must demonstrate strong ability and commitment).
  • Good behaviour and leadership qualities (students should embody resilience, kindness, and a positive attitude).

The final decision is at the discretion of the KSEF Bursary Committee.

For full details, please refer to the bursary policy.

When will we hear about the outcome of our bursary application?

  • All applicants will be informed after the assessment and interview process.
  • Offers are made by the end of February.
  • Families have three weeks to accept or decline the offer.

If my child is awarded a bursary, will they automatically qualify for a bursary for the rest of their time at the school?

No, bursaries are reviewed annually to ensure continued financial need and good academic progress. Families must provide updated financial information each year.

When do we need to apply?

Applications should be submitted in autumn of Year 6, in line with school admissions.
